2nd Annual Mexico Sports Camp | 35 athletes, coaches, and FCA staff from across the United States united to make a difference in Mexico
| | Oliver (San Jose State Basketball) and Rigo (Bay Area FCA)off the plane and ready to make an impact
| From June 23rd-30th Oliver Caballero (San Jose State Basketball Player) and Rigo Lopez (Bay Area FCA Staff) along with 33 other athletes, coaches and FCA staff from across the United States spent a week doing an FCA Sports Camp in Rio Verde Mexico.
During this week of “inspiration and perspiration” these athletes, coaches and staff taught Mexican kids 9-17 years of age four sports: basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball. The huddle leaders and huddle coaches also demonstrated to these kids God’s love, sharing personal testimonies and equipping them for a future filled with hope in Christ. Bay Area FCA staff Rigo Lopez shared the following, "Our athletes and coaches were awesome! They served and loved on the children in Mexico and made such a lasting impact on their young lives. It was truly amazing to witness how God's love transcended language and cultural barriers. The majority of our team spoke very little to no Spanish but that didn't stop anyone! What a privilege to see our FCA vision come to pass before our eyes by seeing this part of the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of athletes and coaches'"
Besides the sports camp the FCA team also visited a local prison and a local school for mentally disabled children. While at the prison the team participated in an exhibition basketball and soccer game with local prisoners, interacting with them and served them a meal. Oliver and Rigo both shared their personal testimonies with these prisoners. The team witnessed over twenty prisoners make faith commitments.
We would like to thank the many individuals who made this trip a possibility for both Oliver and Rigo to impact kids live in Mexico through the FCA ministry. We also would like to say THANK YOU to the countless families throughout the bay area who donated equipment to bless these precious children in Mexico. |
